Orthopaedics
If your pet is limping, slowing down, or struggling with movement, our orthopaedic service is here to help. We focus on diagnosing and treating problems with bones, joints, and ligaments—so your pet can get back to living comfortably.
Meet Andrew Byrne
Andrew has over 30 years of experience in veterinary surgery, with a strong focus on orthopaedics. He developed his interest while working in the UK during the 1980s and 1990s and has continued to build his expertise ever since.
He is a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Advanced Practitioner in Surgery. This means he has completed additional postgraduate training (including a certificate in Small Animal Surgery) and is recognised for having a higher level of expertise than a general veterinary practitioner.
Andrew previously spent 30 years as a partner in Brayvet and is now part of the team at GoreyBray Vets.
Our Orthopaedic Services
Orthopaedics covers a wide range of conditions affecting your pet’s movement. At GoreyBray Vets, we currently focus on treating common knee and joint problems, including:
Knee (Cruciate Ligament) Surgery
One of the most common issues we see is rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament (similar to an ACL injury in people). This can cause pain, limping, and long-term joint damage if left untreated.
We offer:
- TTA (Tibial Tuberosity Advancement) – an advanced surgical technique for stabilising the knee
- Prosthetic ligament repairs – often suitable for smaller dogs
Other Knee Conditions
- Luxating patella (dislocating kneecap) – common in smaller breeds
- Growth-related fractures around the knee
- Joint investigations, including joint fluid sampling (joint taps)
Hip Procedures
We also perform a selection of hip surgeries, including:
Treatment of hip dislocations
Procedures for certain hip joint conditions
Diagnosis & Ongoing Care
We provide full assessment of:
- Lameness
- Joint pain
- Stiffness or reduced mobility
Where more complex care is needed, we can refer you to trusted specialist centres.
Andrew also has a strong interest in managing arthritis and long-term joint pain, helping pets stay comfortable with tailored treatment plans.
Looking Ahead
We are continuing to expand our orthopaedic services and plan to introduce additional techniques and equipment in the future.
